LED Gizmos

CR2032 Tidepool Crab

Nestled among the pebbles of a tidepool, a cybernetic crab transforms everyday electronic components into a curious mechanical lifeform. A CR2032 power cell forms the armored shell, while bent leads become articulated legs that appear ready to scuttle across the shoreline.Glowing amber LEDs serve as luminous eyes, casting a warm signal into the surrounding waters like miniature beacons from a distant world. Part tidepool explorer and part interstellar rover, this tiny space-age crustacean patrols the boundary between the ocean and the cosmos.

'AAA' Cell Dragonfly

This cosmic Dragonfly captures the delicate beauty of one of nature's most agile aviators with blend of reused electronic components and imaginative design. This handcrafted circuit sculpture transforms capacitors, wire, an LED, and other components into a dragonfly whose wings use the capacitors to complete the timing circuit for the LED. Inspired by the innovation of the Space Age, the piece celebrates the unexpected harmony between engineering and wildlife, giving discarded circuitry a second life as art. Equal parts conversation piece and an insect beacon from another world. This dragonfly invites viewers to discover familiar forms hidden within the intricate landscape of electronic components.

Magnetic LED 'Throwies'

Magnetic Freeform Circuit ThrowiesA sculptural reimagining of the traditional LED "throwie." Anchored by heavy-duty base magnets, these pieces stick instantly when tossed against any metal surface. Each sculpture utilizes freeform, air-wired construction—turning working traces, timing chips, and passive components into an architectural frame. Rather than shining outward, the LED spotlights the sculpture itself, turning raw circuitry into a glowing silhouette wherever it lands.

Joule-Thief LED Circuits
A celebration of energy reclamation and freeform electronic design. Built to run on batteries with less than a single volt of power—cells that would otherwise end up in the trash—these sculptures use an exposed Joule Thief boost circuit to drive bright LED pulses. By turning hand-wound inductors and functional component leads into the sculpture’s structural skeleton, each piece turns leftover electrical potential into a striking display of self-powered light.

Component Sculptures

Discrete Component Sculptures
Part electronic scrap, part expressive sculpture. This collection repurposes discarded, salvaged, and surplus discrete components—resistors, capacitors, and silicon packages—into an inventive lineup of tiny robots, stick figures, and abstract insects. Without a single printed board in sight, bare wire leads and soldered joints serve as the skeleton for these quirky characters, celebrating sustainable upcycling through a distinctly playful electronic lens.

Raw Sculptures
My interpretations of component sculptures without their surroundings and environments.

Circuit Sculptures

Freeform Circuit Sculptures
Built entirely without conventional circuit boards, these sculptures use hand-shaped brass and copper rods to elevate raw electronics into freestanding art. By turning conductive framework into the primary visual medium, every component and connection remains completely visible—trading ruggedness for striking sculptural depth. Whether designed as ambient light art or programmed for real-world telemetry like tracking local weather and overhead flight paths, these works reimagine lunar landers, satellites, and circuits as living, functional sculpture.
